What's in Antigo?
Plenty of Payants and Sesils live in or near Antigo (especially Wausau). Kathleen Cody
Payant and Trish are the center of a lot of comings and goings at the Second Avenue house.
The Edward and Margaret Cleary family house on Fifth Aveune is in excellent condition. A
high school teacher and his family live there and kkep it up well. The pond area behind
the house has been made into an actively used city park. Boats are
instructed to leave "no wake."

Cleary Home on Fifth Avenue
The Langlade County Historical Society has, maybe, the best building in town for its
purpose. This is on Superior Street, the main street coming into town from the south
(Highway 45, that many of us rode from Chicago or Milwaukee). (See below:)
Cousin Ed Morrissey's efforts to collect and house local history have really paid off.

Langlade County Historical Society's new building, with Delagliese cabin next door.
A lot of Ed Morrissey's energy went into seeing that
first house built in Antigo was preserved and it has been rebuilt next the the Historical
Society's building.. The Delagliese log cabin now looks better than it ever did.

Our relatives's, the Delaglieses, cabin, the first dwelling in Antigo.
The upper reaches of the football stadium on west Fifth Avenue carry a lot of reminders of
Antigo's football heritage. Banners there tell of three state championships and 22
conference championships since 1920.
The new high school on the southwestern part of town cost millions more than some
relatives wanted the town to pay but gives Antigonians impressive facilities. St. John's
Catholic church also is relatively new and prized by parishioners. It's not clear what
happened to the "Cleary" window from the old St.John's church.

Cleary and Delegliese Family Plot Markers
Antigonians keep their cemetery in excellent condition and many families visit. No
mistaking there was a time when Catholics and Protestants had separate sections. The
Cleary plot has an impressive family stone. We'll have to wait for an historian in the
family to explain the figurine on the top of the stone. Is an Egyptian Phoenix? Edward and
Margaret, grandparents to the presently oldest generation, are buried in the middleof the
plot. Nearby are some of their children: Aloysius, Agnes and
Charley son-in-law). The democratic/Christian spirit of the family can be seen in the
place Hannah O'Connor, the family maid, had in the family plot.
Continguous with the Cleary plot is that of the Delagliese. The Morrissey plot is nearby.
